Ok, to cure my clack clack clack, I ordered new lifters for my 2.9, because I am putting on my polished intake, and curing an oil leak. THE FREAKIN LIFTERS WON"T COME OUT!!! You gotta pull the ficking heads off! SON OF A...as you can see, i just got in from doing that crap, gotta find some gaskets tomarrow I guess. I'll get y'all some pics of it, and I'll be selling the motor next summer for a 302. but what a stoopid design. and, I can't get the exhuast bolts out. sheesh!!

You mean that the lifters cant even be lifted out w/ a magnet? Hmm, Ive never torn down my 2.9, and now that is sitting on a trailer, instead of being in my truck, I really doubt I will. Im just trying to find a place that will take it and give me a core fee for it, just so I can make a little cash off of it.

Yep, slide them up, and thunk, they hit the intake port on the head. It looks like the way the exhuast is, the head is molded to come out a bit...well, in I guess for the intake. But, got my gaskets, new head gasket set, so I now have 2 sets of gaskets to do the port and polish. sheesh!!

The common cause of noisy valve train is the oil system, in most cases lifters will not fix the the problem. You need to improve the oil flow, to improve the oil flow you change the rocker arm to shaft clearances by quite a bit and chamfer the oil holes in the shafts. Shaft to rocker arm clearance .0025-.003in. (stock is .0013in.) rocker arm bore diameter should be around .7836-.7842in. When you adjust the valves go 1.75 turns, the spec is 1.5. When you put the covers back on use the fel pro blue gasket, they cost a lot more but no more oil leaks. Also make sure you put the spreaders back on in the right spots and don't overtighten. The exhaust bolts always break, try spraying them a few times before you try to get them out but you will break 80% of them. Remember you can't reuse the head bolts.

Ok, well here I am drinking a beer to rest, been working on my truck all day, did the valve seals, put the heads back on , intakes, valve covers, (have to reun it to set the valves, let my new lifters pressure up) basically everything but the exhuast flange on the drivers side, and the oil, and coolant. "wheew!" Anyone have a EGR equipped ranger and eliminate the stuff? mine's blocked, but there's a box attached to it, and and a vaccum valve on the fender, with a electric plug,,can I disconnect these safely? Guess I'll find out!!:drunk:
