I was curious how often you need to change your fuel filter? I only ask because my truck will act like it's stalling every once in a blue moon. It will happen when I'm rolling to a stop or idling, but it will do it and then it must realize what the heck's going on and it fixes itself. I was thinking maybe I need to replace my fuel filter or something. I haven't had full service on it for 15,000 miles and I have 32,000 on it now ....

Anyone else think that could be the problem or does anyone have any ideas??? I have a K&N Filter on it that I just cleaned so I know it couldn't be that ... I just put BG 44 fuel treatment in to clean the fuel system. I am at a loss. I was going to take it in and get it tuned before the warranty goes out anyways, but I still would like to know what it is ...

The owners manual for my 99 said it was a 100,000 mile filter, but I'm a firm believer in changing them at no longer than 50,000 mile intervals. Some people say 30,000. It's a cheap fix, I'd change it now. You may have gotten some dirty fuel. You'll need a tool to release the filter, it has clips inside the connector that anchor to the line and need the tool to release them. The tool is available anywhere you can buy the filter, a metal one is less than $10 and a plastic set is around $5. The plastic will last you a long time. It slides over the line and inside the connector to release the fingers, then you pull the line out.

If you recently cleaned and re-oiled your K&N filter, that could be the problem. Oil on these will get on you MAF sensor wire. You can clean this will a spray can of electrical contact cleaner. Don't hit it with a solid spray. Too much oil can also get in your IAC valve, which also can cause stumbling/idling problems. It's usually not successful cleaning these. I'd put the original filter back on and take it to the dealer.

When you re-oil the K&N, mist it lightly to an overall light pink color. More than that can seep out.
