View Full Version : Rear Spoilers?
focused Aug 12 2001, 12:45am Ok any out that think that a Rear wing(spoiler) is decent on a Ranger. Anyone have one or care to throw there 2cents in?
Oh and if you do throw a pic on here so we can see it!!
EdgeR6 Aug 12 2001, 01:32am IMO it needs to be a speical truck to have a wing, and the wing can not be to big.
SLORanger Aug 12 2001, 02:44am As a rule trucks and spoilers dont go together. the only time i've ever seen anything close to a spoiler that looked good was a tonno cover with a slight flare at the end. But please don't get a texas tail or anything similar.
FashionBif Aug 12 2001, 07:50am JMO don't do it ! Can you say "Type R Ranger" big time ugly
Obsidian Aug 12 2001, 09:03am have you seen the wings that go on the neon? I think one of those would look good on a tonneau. They are more of an oval and sit pretty flat with a turn up at the end...plus they are not too big...I dunno if or how they would mount
juicedup20 Aug 12 2001, 09:12am I'm going to go with a NO. put your money into something else for your ranger instead of that.
focused Aug 12 2001, 09:33am Hahah no doubt....no Texas tail for me either.

enahs13 Aug 12 2001, 10:50am I agree with most everyone and say NO! But.......do not take our opinions as your final decision. That is what makes this sport fun and exciting being individuals and doing something different. All the trucks/cars you see in magazines.....that is why they are in there. They just have that little something that makes them stand out from the normal truck or car that you see.
Have fun!
lone20 Aug 12 2001, 11:00am i'm planning to add one to mine when the overall body kit is completed...looks like......
mpipes Aug 12 2001, 01:52pm There is a spoiler for trucks that actually looks pretty good..
It's not a wing-lookin thing like most spoilers, it's more like.. hmm... OK ya know those spoilers on the old camaros and firebirds from the 70's?
It's kinda like that... kinda NASTRUCK style.. not so pronounced, but makes a nice difference.
There's a Lightning rollin' round town here that has a HUGE wing at the end of the bed.. it rises up like 18"-24" above the bed, all metal.. it's hideous..
Then there's the guy with the Bronco with a radio tower from a boat grafted onto the rear end like those big neon wings.. dude this thing is literally like 6 feet tall.. I think (hope) he did it to make fun of the ricers, it's a beat-up off-roadin daily drivin' truck so I think he did... hehehe.
Lone20's wing looks good. Seen one on an L, looked real good.I think they look good on a modded truck, especially if it is dropped a bit. But if your truck is stock looking, maybe you should pass on the wing.
I think they look OK if they are integrated with the rest of the stuff on the truck. There's a 4x4 Dakota around here that has a cab extender and hard tonneau with a short loop spoiler on it. He has side steps molded in, cowl hood and a nice set of wheels. The whole thing is covered in deep red. It looks sharp.
lone20 Aug 12 2001, 06:12pm i think it'll all be ok,,have 15x9 eagle 52's with BFG T\A's 255x50(pretty wide) all the way around,,,the Razzi fx kit,,,cobra hood on order and planning on the stillen bumper cover (i don't like the Razzi chin gaurd,,,,,plus a 2/3 drop........road racers profile and EXCELLENT handling when combined with my current suspension setup
Dropped97Ranger Aug 12 2001, 06:26pm my 97 with a wing. http://www.rangerforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1106:pimp:
Gunman Aug 12 2001, 08:20pm I think a wing or spoiler can look good, as long as the lines/curves go good with the shape and style of the truck. Keep in mind, I started minitruckin back when wings on trucks were "in", and I have a wing up in my attic, which may or may not go back on my truck, still undecided. But, I know I'm not going to let the ricer trend influence, or discourage my decision, it will be based on how it goes with the look and style of the truck. F^ck trends, and what people consider "in" or "out", cookie cutters suck!!
AntiRice Aug 12 2001, 08:42pm there is one style that doesn't look too awful...i think it's a "brickyard style"...i think i'm thinking of the same thing as the person earlier who said like the NASCAR trucks. it would only look decent with a low-pro hard tonno, and even then, i wouldn't do it.

I'm gonna have to sound off with an emphatic HELL NO The only wing that I think looks halfway decent is one made by Tek-style, but then again it's a bit much. It's the 'Nas-truck' style, and it's a bit tall and gaudy. Do what you want since it's your truck though!

i agree
i might consider getting a texas tail here pretty soon
after its dropped.......in my opinion they look good
Big Bubba Mar 12 2002, 08:26am If you put a rear wing on a Ranger don't be surprised if a picture of your truck appears on the Ricecop website.:E
Ranger Rider 97 Mar 12 2002, 10:50am Some ranger look nice with em', some don't. Splash has a nice one on his, and i have one thats from checkmate products. Nothing big, but imo, it lokk snice, and gives it sort of a racing look. just my 2 cents.
Ju5t1n Mar 12 2002, 02:45pm I say save your money and put it into something useful.
stRanger Mar 12 2002, 04:17pm i would have to say no... now are you doing it for the looks, or the added rear downforce(if there is any)?!? either way i'd say not really, maybe invest in traction bars?!? those are always nice:E
just my opinion though
later
JPage Mar 12 2002, 07:15pm I would say go for it if your truck can back it up. By this I mean, you usually see spoilers/wings on sports cars or heavily-modded trucks. If your gonna put one on at least make sure your truck goes fast enough that you may actually need it.
How about the LUND Backdraft spoiler? I like it because it is not to much but just enough. Just my .02. Later,SVT
gopher_6_9 Mar 12 2002, 08:00pm Some look good some don't...the only ranger I have seen I liked it on in a while is the one splash used to have (there is 1 more but can't remember his user name...)

Exactly. "rules" are for cookie cutter trucks.
Dropped97Ranger Mar 13 2002, 03:12pm i have a texas til and it look sweet
TRinityMtrSprts Mar 14 2002, 06:29pm i don't think wings and trucks mix... makes your ride look like a gardeners truck  ... it's a little to hick for me... but oh well, everyones different
SVT EDGE Mar 15 2002, 01:59am I have a wing on my tonneau cover. Its made by A.R.E and it looks great. I have recieved many compliments on it. Check out theres old pics of it and my truck!!!!
http://allam.hypermart.net/mike.htm
Once again these pics are really old. My truck is now on rims and in the process of getting baged!
RRRanger Mar 15 2002, 10:47pm I have one on my 98, but it's for rear down force in high speed corners at roadrace tracks. It bolts to the tailgate and comes off for street use. It really helps keep the back end planted.

soul_hammer Mar 16 2002, 12:50am i have the nastruck style and get nothing but compliments on it looks great imho :pimp:
1993splash Mar 16 2002, 06:53pm i saw a sweet one about a week ago... it was on a splash and it was like 2 inches off the tailgate and curved down right as the bed started turning down. hugged the truck perfect.

I think it looks good. I really like your exhaust tips too.
goose Mar 18 2002, 11:42am Many people don't like them. I have had mine on my Ranger for 3 years now. I took it off for a week and the truck seemed "naked" without it. I personally like the way the wing I have looks on my stepside bed but not the way it looks on a fleetside bed.
My truck will probably being showing up on the "ricecop website" then. oh well. I think that my truck, wing or no wing, still blows away (lookwise not speedwise) many trucks that I see rolling around my area.
It all comes down to personal taste. Go with what you think looks good and don't worry about the folks that get all $hitty about wings on trucks and whatnot.
**if you look close at my avatar you can slightly see mine** If not then click on my website.
OneLowRanger Mar 18 2002, 11:48am goose, I gotta agree with ya. The spoiler looks good on your truck. That actually got me to contemplate putting one on my splash.
