I have had my 01 ranger for a little over a month now. I have the 2.3 duratech and have had it long enough to compare it to my old truck. My old truck was a 92 dodge ram 50 with a 2.4 sohc 116hp. From the line it feels like the ranger is quicker. But on my last trip from home to college I found that climbing a long hill with a 7% grade my ram 50 would have destroyed the ranger. I max out about 60 mph in the ranger up these hills. The rpm's are at about 3000 the whole time and wouldn't go any higher unless i dropped to 3rd. On these same hills i could go up to 80 in my ram 50 with the rpm's slowly rising in 4th, and hold 55-60 in 5th. I'm just surprised that my ranger with 140 hsp gets beat by a ram 50 with 116 hsp. Is this about what everyone else gets going up hill?

yes, 2.x rangers suck at hills. when i first got my ranger, i would have to downshift on even the slightest hill to stay above 50mph. after i put an intake and exhaust, it is alot better and i only have to downshift for steep hills, but rangers suck at hills.

I don't think you should have that much trouble with hills. When I got my ranger I did, but I only had 120 hp too. Now that I have a superchip, intake, and exhaust, they are much easier. But with you having 140 hp, you should have no problem.

well, the DOHC Duratec is supposed to be worlds better than the Lima 2.3. While I've never driven a Dodge with the 2.4, I have driven a 2.3 Duratec, and found that it did pull fairly well most of the time, but that even my Lima 2.3 could take it on a steep grade. The only reason I can come up with was that the Duratec I drove sported a 3.55 or 3.45 rear end, my Lima 2.3, a 4.10 rear end. Maybe the reason you experience lack of pull up the hills is a gearing issue and less of a motor issue.

Yeah I noticed that if i get a little run it will hold speed a lot better. What exhaust and intakes would you recommend?

Mac or SSD intake, and Dynomax or flowmaster exhaust.
