:cussing: The inside pad on the drivers side decided to fall apart. Now my rotor is destoyed. And if I replace one side, then I should probably replace the other side also. So I call Advanced Auto and the bill comes to 180.00. WTF. That includes all bearings and seals, rotors and new pads. The only problem is the only list they have is for a 1998 truck and mine is a 2000. Oh yeah and its two wheel drive. The spindle has heat marks on it but it doesn't seem too bad. Sorry I just needed to vent. If anyone has any feedback let me know, I'd be glad to hear it. Thanx.

Sounds like a problem with the caliper binding, since it's 2000 I would take it in and have it repaired under warranty. Excess heat will destroy a pad.

I had the same problem with my 94 last weekend....apparently there is this plastic pin holding stuff together and it broke and the rotor got shredded...
That's not a bad price to fix both sides. A fellow I work with had the wheel fall off his sons 94 accord, to fix one side it was $315 and he couldn't find one anywhere in a junk yard. That area that looks burnt on the spindle isn't anything to worry about, they heat treat them in the bearing race area.
I called the dealer today and they said the parts are the same from 98 on. As long as its not the trailhead suspension. So I got the parts and put them on. Everything went ok. Does anyone think that this could have happened because of negative camber? The truck is lowered roughly 6 inches all the way around. Its been aligned twice and when you look at the wheels they lean in at the top. But the tires aren't showing any signs of wear. The old wheel bearings were worn pretty good. The truck only has thirty thousand miles on it. I didn't take it back to the dealer because I didn't want the hassle of them saying this happened because it was lowered. But I seem to think that wouldn't have anything to do with it. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

Personally from experience I would go with Ford brake parts or NAPA parts. I would leave the Auto Zone and Advanced brakes alone. I know Ford just came out with a new line of rotors that are great quality and at a good price. Check you local prices. If you cant decide e-mail me and I will price out the motorcraft parts for you. By the way guys. If any of you need any Original Quipment parts I will give you 20-30% discount. Just e-mail me at scottfowler@capefearford.net to inquire about the price. You will need a credit card though. I don't do C.O.D.'s.

It probably didnt have anything to do with it being lowered. Usually you experiance tire wear from lowering, if not done right. You probably let the pads get to thin and one of the pads came apart. Was the pads on one side thicker than on the other?
