Trick question? Or just not clear . . .

Ford has had a stake in Mazda for years. If you mean when did the B series change over to a Ford product, that would be '93 - the first year of what could be called the 2nd gen Ranger (square to round).

I was just curious

My buddy has an 89 Mazda small pickup, does that have some or most of the stylin concepts of the 89 Ranger, or is it totally different that far back.

Its kinda confusing, i just wondered what year the Mazda B series went to more of on the Ranger side?

I believe Mazda actually changed in '94... Pre '94 Mazda's are quite different and independent of the Ranger... I also believe Ford claimed stake in Mazda around '92...

The 94 models were the first that were rebadged Rangers. Remember the Ford Courier pickup? That was a Mazda that was sold as a Ford. Then they started selling the Ranger with Mazda badges and some trim differences as it stands today. Ford doesn't own them, they just have a significant financial investment. The Mazda in 93 was available as a B2200 and a B2600, neither of which had a Ranger drivetrain. Here's a brief history of company acquisitions by Ford.

1922 - Purchased Lincoln
1979 - Bought 25% equity in Mazda
1986 - Partnership with Kia to build the Festiva
1987 - Purchased 75% of Aston Martin
1990 - Purchased Jaguar
1994 - Purchased remaining 25% of Aston Martin
1999 - Purchased Volvo and formed a partnership with VW.

Yeah, like I would have remembered all that. ;) I dug it up off the Ford website, in their history section. Not much more detail than what I posted either, I thought they had bought into Mazda more than the 25% in 79.

Sheesh. I ask for help and go away for the day - not only do I get a correction but a lecture as well. I assumed that they would have switched trucks the same year, but they gave the Ranger a year head start.

Well I used to own a 1990 Ford Probe and it came with a 2.2 Turbo Mazda engine.

And it was a good engine too, right? Welcome to the forum, thanks for stopping by the Mazda board.

O, were you only gone a day? I thought I felt a breath of fresh air there. When you going to take a vacation? I need the relief. :daze: :E

Thanks MazdaSOHC

I loved that engine. Just a couple of mods to the turbo and and the car was a rocket, and very reliable.

Hey Micah M, thanks for stopping by. Ford also partnered with Kia to build the Festiva in 1986, not sure when they first worked on the Courier. I'll see if I can't dig something up on that. Post some pics of that truck of yours, and the nitrous system. :)
