View Full Version : Turbo question, not the usual Lima turbo...

Anyone turbo'ed a Duratec yet? I am trying to decide whether or not I want to swap in an Explorer 5.0L or maybe try a Duratec turbo. I am just playing around with ideas now, I hope that one day I can make something happen though. Its hard to beat the rumble of a V8, but the sound of a screaming turbo and blowoff valve is nice too. There is a place here that does installations. Is the Duratec strong enough to handle 8-12lbs safely? I want to be at about the 230hp range.

Thanks,
Joey

The newest 3.0 duratec pushes 200HP stock if I remember right... our duratec-equipped '99 taurus is rated at 175 but that was only the second model year for that engine so I'm sure ford has 'tweaked' the design since then. With a little porting and intake work, maybe a good chip, you should see 230 HP without a turbo.
Check into http://www.duratecperformance.com/yabbse/index.php and see what they say.
If you mean turbocharge your 2.3 they should have info on that too. Good luck!
