I've heard its best to use heat gun/hair dryer to help release the sticky back. Will the paint below the stripe be darker, cuz the rest of the truck is slightly faded? Truck is a 95.

Ranger95 Aug 21 2001, 03:49pm i used a razor blade to remove the sticker, then i used a glue remover to get rid of the sticky back. there was no color difference, which was amazing because i have a black 95 Roadrunner Aug 21 2001, 04:26pm I used acetone and carefully pulled it off with a razor. There is a possibility that the paint will have more shine. You can prolly blend it with some rubbing compound. wldtrky80 Aug 21 2001, 05:16pm i did it on my 95 and it was red and i just a hair dryer and pulled it off with my fingers and them use some glue remover and you couldnt tell they were ever there, it is a little tidious especially when the pinstriping breaks but it isnt bad and does make a big difference Big C Aug 21 2001, 05:22pm If your Ranger is a dark color (black; hopefully); you should be able to take off the stripes and then give the whole truck and good buffing to get rid of some of the fade. If you take off the stripes and you have some glue residue left; WD-40 works pretty well; but it takes a little elbow greese. Good luck. Lowranger26 Sep 01 2001, 12:13am REGULAR RUBBING ALCOHAL ALSO WORKS FOR REMOVING GLUE. STD-CAB-THUMP Sep 10 2001, 01:38pm i just took mine off and used WD-40. It took me a while beause i didn't spend any time on the stripes themselves. Try to take your time on removing the stripes so that you don't leave much glue behind. If there is alot of glue rub WD-40 on it(use alot), it will soften it up. I am going to repaint mine so I didn't worry much about the paint but if you get the glue really soft w/ WD-40 you can get it all off really easily with a razor, just don't slip. LowerRanger Sep 16 2001, 09:48am i removed the pinstriping on my truck it is a 94 ranger and i used a heat gun. but i have to becareful not to leave it in one spot for to long or it will cuz the paint to bubble. Also i used 3M Bug And Tar remove to get all the sticky crap off. the paint underneathed will be darker but all u have to do us wet sand it down. if u just get it buffed out than more than likely it will come back. gopher_6_9 Sep 21 2001, 07:17pm Don't use anything like a razor blade or heat gun, there is a chance you could F**K up the paint. Just use your fingernails to get it started and make sure you pu ll slowly at a 90 degree angle. There is that tiny area where you can skim it along the strip and use the stripes adheasive to keep from scratching you paint. But it is tough, I should have given an easier way, but I just get so good with razorblades after all the coke I snort using them just comes natural  ;) |
