RANGER#1

I just bought a 2000 ranger 3.0 V6, and I am also new to this site. I read the introductory pages and I did a few searches and couldn't find a post asking for first mod advice. I don't have any experience working on cars or trucks, so I doubt I'll be doing any mods myself for now. Hey! I grew up with my mom, and my grandpa, who melted down anything he tried to work on...the DNA's against me :sad2: . So, what should be my first mod...one that will be effective in relation to hp gains. Is there anything that can get me up to...or at least close to 170 (a 20 hp gain) in one mod. Also, hopefully it won't cost an arm and a leg...and a tire. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Welcome to RPS
First off, bout the only way you're gonna get 20 Hp from one mod is to add either a nitrous kit or supercharger.
But since you're not that mechanically incline, I would suggest against that and stick with the typical bolt ons. Like intake kits, TB's, MAF's and exhausts.
If you want a super easy mod, that will definitely wake up that 3.slow, click my "WWW" and go to page 4. Its the air silencer mod'd and air box mod. It's basically free, or cost like 40 bucks for the K&N panel filter, but the filter is optional.
Edit: You should also be able to get a set of under-drive pulleys for your 3.0, that should free up at least 5 rwhp. To my knowledge they're not to expensive, I think around 50-100 bucks.
And there is also a hot water bypass, which will help out with keeping incoming air cool. Just do a search for "Hot water bypass" and you should find what you need to do it. Its also pretty cheap, and easy, only cost bout 15 bucks and a couple hours of your time to do.
Also be sure to check out the 3.0 Forum, thats where you'll find any info you need on doing performance mods.
Any other questions feel free to PM me about them.
Welcome to RPS Ranger#1. Click on this link and look around, it's the website of Boss 3.0, one of the moderators on the 3.0 board. It's chock full of things to do to your 3.0, some free or really cheap. He's got full instructions, approximate gains, and costs.
