View Full Version : What should I do?
Jarrett Jun 16 2001, 11:47am I have a '99 reg. cab and I want to put either 2-8's, 1-10 or possibly 2-10's. I'm 6'3" and I've got the seat slid and tilted all the way back so I can't lose any leg room. I'm going to build my own box(es) because I can't afford any of those nice plastic ones.:) My question is what would sound better, 2-8's or 1-10? I don't think I'll get the 2-10's to fit. I also need room for my amp. If it makes a difference I'm going with Sony Xplode speakers.
EatnS10s Jun 16 2001, 02:12pm You got a nice big area behind the passenger side. :E I should hope your truck has split benches, so if that's the case... sacrifice the passenger's leg room. go for one 10 as well. Unless you want to mutalate your truck, then you can cut out a little bit of the back wall and the bed of your truck, fabricate some sort of metal box that opens up in the cab and goes so far back into the bed, and then you can build a 2 - 12" bandpass box to fit up in there. :E
But realistically, do the one 10 behind the passenger, relocate your jack and stuff to behind your seat and mount your amp on the box if possible, if not mount it behind your seat as well.
hayn_surferboy Jun 16 2001, 02:46pm yeah that sounds good, I think you should go with one ten or maybe even one 12 in you can get one that doesn't need alot of airspace. hopefully you got split bench seats in their at least and I guess you'll have to sacrifice the passenger leg room and you'll have to relocate all the stuff on the passenger side to yours, but that probably won't be too much work. Anywayz that;s just my $.02
Jarrett Jun 16 2001, 07:10pm I'm not lookin' for any window shattering sound. I recently put a 6/6.5(?) Bazooka (it was given to me) and a 75x2/100 W Jensen amp in my truck. That amp will have to stay for a while. I still have the stock door speakers and no rear speakers. I like the sound of it but I want more. I'm planning to change the door speakers and add some tweeters. I'm thinking the two 8's or 1-10 would serve me just right. What would the difference in sound /bass of the 2-8's and 1-10 be? I don't think getting them in there would be a problem for me, I'm just wonderin' how different the 2 setups would sound.
{edit} 150W bridged
EatnS10s Jun 16 2001, 09:58pm Well, with your amp, if I understand you right, you are saying you can get 75 Watts Peak per channel with a two channel amp. And if you bridge it, you can get 100 watts (RMS or Peak). Best thing to do is drop in on an Audio shop and ask if they can set up a demo with two 8's vs. one 10.
Aside that, with 8's you won't get certain lows that a 10 can, and the same can be said about 12's vs 10's. I say bridge the amp and go one 10. It'll be more than the bazooka (which I am about to install myself) and still sound good. The thing with the two 8's, if you use your amp's two channels, your peak is 75, so the RMS is about.. half that sometimes... so 35 to 40 watts is your RMS (continuous wattage). With two 8's and the two channels, you'll it will be set up in Stero. Meaning in the recording instead of the one 10 booming all the time, the two 8 set up will go back and forth between one another, both go at the same time. So you get a more rich stereo setup with the 8's and a mono setup with the 10. It's just one of them things that's left up to you.
Jarrett Jun 16 2001, 10:03pm I'm a dumbass. I meant 150 W bridged.:E
RangerToonz Jun 17 2001, 06:19am First off, Jensen is ****. Pure and simple ****. Bazooka's are good. In fact, if I could afford em, I'd be puttin two of the 8 or 10inchers in my Cutlass with another fosgate amp.
Now...as far as two 8s or one 10? Well, bass is a matter of how much airspace you are able to move. two good 8s are gonna pound a helluva lot harder than one somewhat-good 10. My suggestion is go with 8s....find a pair of em that'll work in a really small enclosure (i.e. Kicker Solobarics, Eclipse 8700 series, MTX anything, etc). The thing you most have to be aware of is depth of the sub you plan on buying. If yer gonna use that little cave behind your seat, the subs are gonna have to be pretty shallow. besides, two 8s are gonna move more air than one 10. besides....you can get three JL 8s and run em...they'll pound nicely. Just make sure you're not runnin em at full range.....cross em over at about 80hz.
just my .02
