Be aware that if you install a chip on your trucks computer, then it voids your factory 8 year warranty.......my truck was acting up and i couldnt figure it out so i brought it to the dealership and after a day of testing everything they realized i had put the chip in and said since i did that it voided the warranty and iff it caused my motherboard to screw up then i had to replace it.....luckily it was just that the chip had gone out.............

What kind of chip were you running? I thought I read that chips don't void your warranty? Or is that just a ford thing?

Why didn't you just take out the chip before you went in. Computer goes back to stock and no one knows that you had a chip on it.

Who has an eight year factory warranty? I never heard of this, maybe an extended warranty. First off if this dealer won't fix the problem goto another dealer and remove the chip. By the way which chip did you have? We want to stay clear of this company.

The chip was a superchip.......The dealer told me there is an 8 year 80,000 mile warranty on the computer since its not something that breaks too often. When my truck acted up i was headed to school in jacksonville from melbourne so i had to bring my truck back to my house and take my moms car to school....i totally forgot about taking the chip out before my parents took it to the dealership....no harm done since the chip was the only problem.....plus i got to take my moms 2001 special edition maxima to school...usually it takes me 2 hrs and 45 minutes from door to door and i made it in the in 2hrs even......in my opinion the chip is kind of a waste of money.....you can tell a slight difference but not worth it......plus on top of it all, before i went home for the weekend it was acting up so i brought it to the dealership in jax and they said the air bypass valve was messing it up so they went and fixed that and the truck ran fine till sunday then it screwed up again.......air bypass valve and labor $220......
what a waste of money....then this morning i get a courtesy call from ford here in jax and they ask me if i was satisfied with there service and i told them what i thought straight up they cost me $220 for nothing

It's against the law to say any aftermarket product will void your warranty. Check this short cut out it's called the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Federal Trade Commision Improvement act.

The only way it will void you warranty if they can prove the product caused damage to the vehicle. If you take something to the dealer take the mod's off if you think it might be a problem

That doesn't make sense in my opinion, for one matter. Companies DO NOT have to supply a waranty, its simply a promotion for marketing.

Although, I suppose the "price shown" law comes into affect there. Such as, if you have an advertised price you have to sell it for that price ... despite whatever the consequences.

From reading his first post, it sounds like his computer went out. If there is a dealer out there who will replace a computer under warranty even when you have a chip on it, they won't be in business long.

depends on who you take it and what the mechanic is like... we have a diesel guy at my work who just wrote off a dually on this lady cuz she had a chip in it and the motor was doin all this funky stuff..... fair? nope. however now her 5 month old truck is out of warranty and if I just paid that much & for a new dually I'd be pissed...... the moral.... take the damn chip out before you come to a ford dealer... we do have to look for them.
