Man, I love the rain. I've had all kinds of time to mess around in the garage this weekend.

Well for my final project this weekend I finally got around to trying the SOHC oil pan on the OHV. Both 4.0's of course ;).

The reason for this is the SOHC oil pan has a stud girdle/windage tray made into it. The OHV has a small windage tray but nothing to tie all the main caps together. This SHOULD help the strength of the bottom end to hold together under heavy loads and higher RPM's. I still say anything over 6000 rpms on a OHV and your wasting your time. Yes I know, they are both VERY dirty, mind you this was done on two core engines I have lying around. I will have it cleaned up very soon.

First pic here is showing all the main cap bolts. The top set is from the OHV and the bottom row is the SOHC. Note how the SOHC main bolts have a section on top of them where the smaller cap bolts thread into them. This is how they are attached to the oil pan.

Next I'm trying to show the stock OHV windage tray

This is a picture of the OHV with the SOHC main studs installed, they are excatly the same length.

Now it will require the use of the SOHC two peice oil pump screen or pickup. Here's a picture of both of these on the oil pump. The one on the right is the OHV and the left is the SOHC.

This should make for a better bottom end for the OHV a bit. I still highly recommend a balance job for any 4.0. This will fit into any frame wether it be I-beam or coil spring. I think I'm threw for this weekend now so have fun reading.

Later Doug904.

So, have you put the SOHC pan on your Splash yet. :)

Man, we need to have a section on this board just for stuff like this. A month from now someone will be asking if this will work, and we'll have to search for it. With all the engine teardowns you have pics of, and what Adam is doing with his, we really need a place to store this, other than stickies.

Maybe Adam could play nice and make a sub board for tech pictures and articles? How about it Adam?
