I posted this question a couple days ago on the General Discussion board but didn't get much attn. :bawl: Does anyone know if an alternator from a 95 Ranger (any size motor) will fit on a 94 4.0 ? Are they all the same ? e.g. Amp rating, wiring hookup, case/housing and mounting bracket etc......

Thanks,
Gerry

They're not all the same, but they will usally bolt in and hook up. There were some differences in amp output. I'd be safe and call a parts store, ask for the part number for both years/engines and compare them. They may be nice and tell you if they are both the same just by asking. Or call a junkyard and ask them.

Hey Gerry, there's a group purchase goin down in about a month check the group purchases board we need more people to sign up...just FYI :)

:drunk:

Yeah just some more FYI for ya Gerry, the group purchase is for 200amp alternators that fit our 4.0L and most of them it sounds...and if we get a few more we only pay 178$ for them if we don't get anymore to meet the 15 people, we pay 180$ for them and get them powdercoated at the factory for 25$ more...just thought you'd like to know. BlackBeauty started the thread and deal so look under group purchases if ya wanna know more. :)

They are the same on all 4.0L I believe. '94-'95 I am almost postitive. I was looking at my moms '95explorer yesterday and it looked identical to my '94 4.0L. There are however two different amp ratings for these years. I think they are 95 amp and 125amp. If you get a 125 amp that would be best. I just had to replace mine and got a 95 amp replacement from Schucks auto parts and it was right at $200 after tax and it had a lifetime warranty.
