JMFord_1 May 29 2003, 04:48pm Wow!!! That looks great. Have you taken it out on the road yet? What was the final cost of this project? You are going to crash the boards with all the posts this will generate.
Great job!! :burnout: (This will be you for sure now!)
BOSS 3.0 May 29 2003, 05:04pm Road tests continue.
There is a really interesting valve (Boost Bypass Controller) that is visible at the top right corner of the video (shiney stick). When you blip the throttle, it opens to relieve boost pressure when the engine is decellerating (vacuum condition as the TB snaps shut). Well, it is open often enough that it limits the boost! I bypassed it on my latest run (lunch), and PING-CITY!! This means I stumbled on a big boost increase and:
1. ... seriously leaned out the engine.
2. ... found that 5° advance is WAY too much.
3. ... I need to switch to higher octane (was very streetable on 86 octane, not anymore!).
Or, all the above. This is going to take sometime to straighten out. "boostdstang" on ebay is going to build me a MAF, but wants me to go directly to 30lb injectors and no FMU. The 65mm Cobra TB is going to be replaced with a '94-'95 Mustang 65mm TB to incorperate the IAC on the TB. This particular unit will fit since the TPS/IAC are on the same side of the TB. I also need a boost-referenced Fuel Pressure Regulator to keep the fuel pressure the same, regardless of boost pressure.
First thing is gauges. I'm flying blind and it doesn't give you a cozy feeling, that is for sure! Once I can see the boost #'s and A/F ratio, I'll be happy. If it wasn't for the MSD-6BTM, I would never have attempted flying blind, and DO NOT recommend it to anyone.
Final cost? It ain't over yet! To date, over $4,000. It can EASILY be done for under $2,000 if you don't have a hack boning you in the process. Used parts on a budget build for a non-perfectionist? $1,000.
Phred168 May 29 2003, 05:43pm Looks great :) Glad to see the 3.0 guys are workin hard :) Any guesstimates on ETs?
BOSS 3.0 May 29 2003, 06:28pm Got a "fuel pump test guage" (big, portable 30" vacuum to 7psi guage). I show a whopping 3lbs boost, but that is a 99° ambient air temp and the boost bypass enabled.
98blownranger May 29 2003, 08:02pm how did you disable the boost bypass?
I was thinking of doing the same to my M62
curt
bluedge May 29 2003, 10:08pm The nice thing though is that you said you see tremendous gains, and now you have figured out that you have a lot more to gain when you get some other things hammered out. Depending on how it works out when you get it all straightened out, and I may no longer be looking at a 5.0 swap in the future. I know that you could be pushing at least 7-8 pounds with the setup you've got, and I'd love to see what 10 would do. Nice job leading the way there Boss.
~Russell
BOSS 3.0 May 29 2003, 11:58pm Enable and disable really make it sound tough, but it isn't. Just don't connect it.
It is spring loaded to stay closed. No vacuum on top, it is closed. Now, I am going to play with ways to keep it connected, and make it less touchy. I think it is very useful, and with a vacuum solenoid, it can be sweet (Full boost on demand!).
I would rather do this, than a 5.0 swap, that is for sure. Just the sound of that charger is worth it!

...RGrecko (Probe boards) and our own Doug904 were there too.
lillitnn92 May 30 2003, 02:32pm NOOOOOOO!!!
i don't have Q-time! it always takes over everything and i can never get it to stop, so i don't use it.
:bawl: :bawl: :bawl: :bawl:
BOSS 3.0 May 30 2003, 10:47pm I won the '94 Cobra TB ($10) and a Pro-M 75mm Bullet MAF ($165) on ebay today. MAF is being programmed for the SC and 30lb injectors.
Now if I can just get a 2.5" pulley somewhere....
02Tremor May 31 2003, 12:29am I think that falls under the HINT HINT category for DKZ huh??? its sounds mean can't wait for you to get it hammered out and times posted (gotta love that sc whine)
lillitnn92 May 31 2003, 06:56am thanks BOSS!!!!

3.0 kaos Jun 08 2003, 04:43am nice job first ranger Iv'e seen blown (3.0)
splash96svo Jun 14 2003, 02:10am Nice job!! It looks and sounds great. Best of luck with it. I gotta say i never thought i would see a ranger 3.0 with a blower on it!
Real NICE!
01edgeracer Jun 24 2003, 06:19pm how much HP would that give you and was it worth the investment i'm thinking Nitrous would be cheaper.
BOSS 3.0 Jun 29 2003, 10:15pm Nitrous is FAR cheaper, but, do not confuse N2O with "real" power adders. Sure, there is a kick when you flip the switch, but when the bottle is empty, you are done. Not knocking nitrous, just letting you know that it is like comparing apples and coconuts! :er:
The bottom end torque (the whole reason I started this project) is amazing, and it never lets up. Over 500 miles and I like it more everyday. Now if I could only get Pro-M to get me the right MAF...
dangerranger02 Jun 29 2003, 10:46pm nice mod man, must be the best increase in hp for the 3.0; whipple superchargers is coming out with a kit for the 3.0 this summer, they have me on a mailing list, email them if you are interested, and i'm sure they push out the kit sooner...later people, p.s. i'm new to the forum, die hard trs fan, trsmagazine street section editor
96Violet3.0 Jul 03 2003, 03:18pm When are you going to get some dyno numbers or take it to the track?
BOSS 3.0 Jul 03 2003, 07:38pm ...not before I put in the 30# injectors, Pro-M MAF (Sent back, wrong one) and install the 7lb boost pulley. 3lbs boost just won't be impressive enough number wise :D
dangerranger02 Aug 12 2003, 10:27am is the MAF the only thing needing to be reprogrammed when upgrading the fuel system to accomodate larger injectors and a higher flow rate fuel pump?
if so, who does it? dealer?
and cost?
BOSS 3.0 Aug 18 2003, 01:08am MAF, Injectors (30#), 155LPH Fuel pump.
Chip to follow.
CatmanJJ Aug 22 2003, 10:00am That's bad. I'm definitly interested to see some power numbers and some E.T.s with that set up. :)

Does Whipple have a website where I can see their blowers?? Thanx.
BTW, nice job, I never thought putting a blower on a 3.0 would be possible. Great job.

USMCRanger Oct 24 2003, 03:42pm Looks and sounds sweet. Done a lot to it since I was last on.

Little boys suck on the bottle, real men get blown heheh as in forced induction!:E
03RangerXLT Oct 26 2003, 03:08pm wow, i just read some other posts arguing about NOS vs forced air induction, and I assure you, teh above post from me is truelly a joke, just so no one gets mad : )
voodoo Dec 05 2003, 01:22pm that is bad ass! If some ricer pulled up to you he would think something was wrong with your engine. How man extremes have you ripped in half with that thing. Ha Ha
