Ranger289 Jun 08 2003, 08:07pm iam running a 9" with 3.70 gears and a spool. Rustythis Jun 08 2003, 11:02pm 9", 4:56, Limited slip denniruz Jun 09 2003, 04:46pm I have an extra 9", but I opted for a 8.8 and here's why- 1- It's slightly lighter. 2- Out of the box, it's just as strong. 9" rears can be damn near unbreakable, but it costs a good buck to get it there. If you use a 9" rear, try to find a nodular center section- tons stronger than the garden variety. My personal preference for a diff in a 9 is a detroit locker, but auburn makes a great 2 wheel peel diff for 9's. As far as gear ratio goes, that depends on how you're going to use your truck- For a daily cruiser with a stick, 3.23 or 3.55:1 is a good gear- 3:55 or 3:73 for a daily driven auto. For a dual purpose or drag only truck, 3:73's and up are the norm, depending on how high up the rpm band you'll be making power. I went with a c4 with 4.10 in my old stang and at the end of the run I was hitting about 5000 rpms. If you want to still use it as a daily driver but have good acceleration go with 3.73 in a 8.8 you will get the best of both worlds. |
