I'm going to be entering in a local SPL competion and What cd should I play? What would be the BEST song to make my sub hit?

They have it catagorized by the number of subs you have and what size.

OK here's my set-up. Pioneer CD player(DEH-P2000) hooked in to a Clarion ProAudio APA1200(300 @ 2ohms) hooked up to one(1) JL Audio 12W3-D4 (sealed box, 1.5 cu ft). If it matters the front/rear speakers are hooked up to the headunit. [Pioneer TS-A878, 3 1/2" 2-way(front), Kenwood KFC-578C, 5"X7" 3-way(rear)]

Also what do you think my set-up will hit at? Don't get on my case b/c i have a JL Audio.

Hey man,

Dont let anybody tell you that JL audio sucks. I happen to love their subs and their sound quality is awesome. Dont let anyone change your mind about a product. If you like it thats all that matters. Im not sure what youll hit at the comp but Im sure it will be respectable. Ive heard that Nellys EI has done pretty good at comps. Anyway later.

i'm not worried about what people say about it. to me the JL hits harder than my 2 Rockfords, and sounds better than RF.

The best thing to play is a CD that has the differant frequencies on it. If you know someone that has a meter, get them to find your best freq. so you`ll know which one has the loudest SPL in your truck.

Someone there is bound to have the old usac outlaw cd there. I Belive it is track 17 that has something like a 300-20 hz drop.

I think track 19 is a 20k to 20hz drop.

Track 17 would be your best bet.

I would guess no higher then a 140 tops on the dash. But let us know how it goes.

I did a 143 with 300 watts in my Ranger super cab a few years ago with 1 C/V vega 12" in a ported box I made running off a sony diskman cd player. If you can beat my 143 on the dash I will give you and your (hack) JL sub (hack) some credit. Most important thing is to have fun.

He will not have enough time to play all the tones. That is why I recomended the sweep.

You've got 30 seconds to make the most noise your sound system can make. You can do pretty much anything you want in that 30 seconds as long as your windows stay up and doors stay closed. Some guys choose to "burp" their systems (those are typically the guys with nothing but a wall of subs, no seats or dash, and an outside podium for the head unit. Your typical off the street type person can't afford the $50k set-ups like that. So we just have to use music or test tones. If you can, see if you can find an 80-30hz Sine Sweep. that'll hit some hard tones. If not, use Korn's "Freak on a Leash"...fast forward to the skat part and wait. It's a perfect 30 seconds long, and I got measured at 138dB with it with my old amp......not bad for a pair of MTX 10s in a regular cab ranger with a very small amp (MTX 2120...bout 125 watts bridged...not 2ohm stable) My Fosgate amp hits a HELLUVA lot harder than the MTX did...I'm sure I'm hittin 140s...all with a lil love and values from Korn...

My friend burnt me a CD and it had a "Woofer Excursion Test" on it....it only has bass in it and it is loud on any subs!!!
He downloaded it from Napster I believe.

That's track 6 off of Power Supply's first and elusive disc "Bass Boom Bottom". Impossible to find, as track 8 hits a helluva lot hard....called bass for your face if your friend cares to look it up. More low bass and harder hitting. People were using that to compete before the dB Drag Racing Association was even born.

try and find the Sony Xplode CD. Good test tracks on it...especially the 100-20hz sweep...that thing hurtz....
