Has anyone had experience with having (what I assume to be) their vibration dampener come loose from the front of the driveshaft? Its a thick steel ring mounted with rubber-foam just behind the transmision case.

Can this be remounted at a transmisson shop or am I looking at buying a whole new driveshaft?

Are you talking about the center carrier bearing on a two piece drive shaft? It bolts to the chassis and looks like a metal hoop with a rubber bushing, and inside there's a bearing around the drive shaft. They are normally loose enough in the rubber bushing that you can move the driveshaft around quite a bit. I've never seen anything other than that on a driveshaft that would look like a vibration dampener. If it is, those can be replaced without replacing the driveshaft.

Welcome to the board, hope this helps. :)

That sounds like it must be it. (I took it to one of the big garages to have some other minor work done and they didn't quite know what it was).

Thanks for the welcome. I've had my truck for a couple months now and this is the first place I've found B-Series specific info.

This is the first and only place I've found for the B-series. I'm glad RPS set this up for us as there are a few differences between our trucks and Rangers. Mechanically they are brothers, but there are alot of sheet metal differences. From 1994 up, the Mazda and Ranger share all mechanical components.

I couldn't be more impressed with this forum. I found it yesterday at about 10:30am, was at home depot at lunch-hour and pulled into the parking lot this morning with a nicer looking truck allready ;-)

... and am allready making more modification plans. It won't get lowered, it will have the stance and styling of the original troy lee concept truck that was at the shows in 1997. Saw it in a motocross magazine back then and have wanted one ever since.

Hey Acosi,
this board is quite informative alright. Whereabouts in NB are you from? I'm originally from NF. I have family in St.John and Fredrickton.

Hey Acosi,
I work with a civil engineering firm here in San Diego. It's a hell of a nice spot but they don't party here like they do back home! I see that you've spent some time on George Street. I went to college in St.John's so I spent a little time there myself. :) There's alot of us Newfies here. I'm actually heading to a meeting of the Newfoundland Club of Southern California this weekend. We basically just get together and drink!
Later,
W.

I had a same problem, if you talking about your shaft got pulled out of your tranny. The truck was under waranty then, so they replaced the whole transmission without any arguments. I don't want to scare you, but it might be something major, I'd take it to Tranny shop around where you located . Btw, they told me that my custom wheels caused that. Now, that kind of hard to believe. Btw Mazda did recall transmissions on previous generation rangers, thats one of the reasons they did not argue. Let us know what happens.
