how to remove lock ring on fuel tank/pump?

Hi there guys, I'm trying to remove and replace the fuel pump on my truck (06 4x4 4.0 ex-cab) I've already dropped the gas tank, and have it out on the garage floor, but ran into trouble with this lockring that holds the pump in the tank... Has anybody done this before or know how to remove this? It has some tabs that look to have been crimped over the ring, am I supposed to un-bend these?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

+1 I used a large flathead and a hammer. I think you hit it counter clockwise to get it off IIRC...

Are you talking about that white ring that threads onto the tank? I'm not sure if its the same on a 2000, but we changed my buddy's fuel pump, and had to use a screw driver and a hammer, while trying to twist it, to get it broke loose.

Cool thanks guys, I was looking at it last night and thought I might be able to hit it and break it loose like you guys said, I'll give that a shot today.

"Are you talking about that white ring that threads onto the tank?" - I'm not sure about the 2000s but on mine there is a black metal ring that keeps the pump locked in place but it sounds like you had to do the same thing to get it loose. Thanks again for all the help guys!!!

Make sure when it goes back on that the o-ring is seated correctly. Otherwise it will leak in and out.
