I've got 80K on my '99 4.0L ranger and I've never changed the plugs or the wires. Is this something I should just do periodically, or only when I start having problems?

it definetely cannot hurt, and seeing as to how you can get a set of awesome JBA spark plug wires from truckperformance.com for around $50-65 or something, it's something you should do after that many miles. While you're at it, also change the plugs, if you've got a bumpy idle or are not getting the performance/gas mileage you'd expect, this is a great starting point to build from.
I'd change the plugs soon. They might fire for 100K miles, but good luck getting them out with that kind of miles on them. And breaking one off, especially that passenger side rear plug, is something you don't want to have to fix.

I can't seem to find the JBA wires on truckperformance.com. Link anyone? Is this a vehicle specific application or general ('99 4.0L V6)? Also, I'm thinking motorcraft platinum plugs. Good? Thanks for all the help all...

Actually you know what, they show them for my 97 but not for your 99. Is there a difference in the firing order or anything ignition related between the two years?
