    Clutch Pedal Position Switch

Okay, the clutch pedal position switch on my 1997 Mazda B-Series has died. The truck won't start when you push it in, and the cruise control has been on the fritz for awhile. We tested it before and found the cruise control switch wasn't working properly. Now the whole switch has died.

Does anyone know how I can replace this switch. It is mounted to a white plastic rod behind the firewall. It has 1 clip running into it with cables. (we test the cables of a wireing digram for the cruise control).

If you need a picture of the switch let me know, I will run out and take one.

    Thanks!

Okay, so no one seems to be able to help me at all.

I got the pictures that I said I would get of the switch. Here it is.

The white rod attaches to the clutch pedal. I konw the colors of the wires already, so I can tell which one is for the clutch in position (to start the truck) and which wires are for the clutch out position (to turn on the cruise control).

Any advice would be appreciated!! Especially on how to remove it or install a new one.

I looked in a 2002 factory shop manual. There's a good chance that your 97 is the same.

    It says:

    Unplug the electrical connector.
Remove the rod eye from the clutch pedal.
Then pinch the lock tabs and pull the clip forward.
Rotate and snap the CPP switch from the clutch master cylinder rod.

I haven't done one of these so I can't offer any other info. Hope that helps a little.

Snap it open and remove it off of the rod. If you remove the rod from the pedal, you will need the plastic clip that hold it to the pedal - they are a 1-time use deal. They are only a few $ IIRC. It can be done without removing the rod, but it is a PITA. Once you take the old one off, you will see the piece that slides inside it, and that goes against a 'collar' that is part of the rod. Hold the slider back, put it in place, let the slider go, snap the top over.

I was gonna say. The sensor should come apart. Look to see if there are a couple of clips on the long sides of the sensor box. One whole side should come off, allowing you to just pull it off the rod.

okay... i didn't make it to the junk yard this weekend. It rained and stormed all weekend here in florida. So the sensor should just basically snap in half and come off, should be pretty easy to take apart. Also, i wouldn't think their would be different sensors. But do you think their are different ones from rangers/mazda's with cruise control and those without cruise control? I will know when I get to the junk yard and have a look, but it would save some time searching if I knew ahead of time.

    Thanks Guys!

I will let yah know how the search goes this weekend

Okay... so I got to the junk yard and found a new switch off a 1996 Mazda B-2300.

The removal is fairly easy... pull back the plastic tabs and slide the holder off. Then yank the switch out. Done.

Installation is the reverse... Push the switch around the metal rod (Harness facing forward). It will snap into place. Put the white plastic shield back around it and ta-da switch installed.

It performed perfectly. The truck started up and and the cruise also worked.

If anyone has any questions feel free to pm me.

Thanks again for the help. Kev

now... one to break other things
