    No reverse 5R55E 4.0 4wd

I have read thru my manual and it seems to point to the reverse servo or a low fluid pressure problem. All other gears work fine. Im doin a fluid change and plan on dropping the valve body to inspect/replace the gaskets.

As far as the servo goes its says to check the rod length (which i cant do without speacail tooling) im sure the rod lenght is fine.

    My question here

has anyone dealt with this problem with this tranny or can shed some light on something i may be missing?

    also i found this

its about 700 bucks more than the normal rebuild costs (for the stage 2)
    but hey it sounds fun

First off check the fluid, if its low, funny things happen... but more than likely it would be slipping out of first and such.... Those prices seem ok... I paid $2500 for a full rebuild on mine... However I needed a new planitary set and sunshell ... I also had the conveter restalled (loosend considerably) valvebody recalibrated, and all upgraded bands clutches etc.... Price also include ULX 1000 fluid, and dropping, reinstalling/ roadtesting the tranny among all the usual seals etc etc etc.... So the prices dont look all that off.... Heres the link for anyone interested.... They do amazing work, luckilly for me they are located 10 minutes from my home, but Fred (Freddy Brown... FB) is a great guy... FB Performance

Sorry man, I don't have a apply chart sitting here, but off the top of my head I would suspect a band or clutch problem, but again I don't have an apply chart for the 5r55 here so that is simply a guess untill I can do some more research for you.

The reverse band is most likely the problem. It could be a problem with the band itself or the servo. The servo cover is located under the pan.

If it is a problem with the band or servo, you will also have no compression braking in manual low.

    Good Luck

Actually I looked and I can't come up with them, either in the shop manuel or online on the FMCDEALER site and the trans manuel I couldn't find today. I will do some more looking tomorrow

EDIT: scratch that, I just found it in the spec section of FMCDEALER. And going by it I would suspect the low/reverse band from what you have said. Try it in manuel 1 and see what manuel one feels like.

manual downshifting in second/first work fine

could it be the one way clutch broke and is now a two way?

im tempted to drop the valve body and go to the stage 3 transgo shift kit

    no engine braking in first

So is that no engine braking in manuel first? If so I would defiantly say it is the low reverse band.

Yeah I really don't a servo problem there, though a servo does control the band, I imagine what hapened is the servo sheared the band where it contacts it.

Yep if it sheared the band it would defiantly cause a clunk like that.

ive been pretty religous with tranny fluid changes

i have pushed this time to 35k as i was trying to get my hands on a torque wrench so i could drop the valve body (you get more old fluid out that way beside stage 3 shift kit sounded good)
