Okay I don't know if I have adjustable rockers in this truck. If I do how do I adjust my valves. Never done it
They are hydraulic, and in theory shouldn't need adjustment. But they are adjustable.
The procedure is getting them to 0-lash then 1.5-2 turns.
Too loose is better than too tight, better to not have a valve stuck open.
They also physcally cannot be adjusted while the engine is running due to where the adjustments are on the rocker arms (on the ends).

okay so I wanna adjust them but dont really know how. Is it easier to have them adjusted or to do it myself. How much would it cost.
You need to set the #1 cylinder to top dead on the compression stroke, get the intake/exhaust push rods to 0 lash, then turn 1.5-2 turns. Then you move on to the next cylinder in the firing order, and repeat the procedure. 1,4,2,5,3,6 is the order the cylinders will need to be adjusted in, turn the crank to move to the next cylinder in the firing order. TDC is when both valves will be closed, you do not want to adjust when there is a valve open.
If you're not sure, have someone do it because this will really screw your engine up over time if it's wrong. I would think somewhere between 2.5-3 hours of labor. It probably took me about 5, but I work slow.
Pete
slow and steady does good work.
hey pete. is 1.5-2 turns the updated adjestment? all data posted an update from ford. my old service manual said different though. i went with all data. ~mitch

I remember hearing that Ford put 4 turns in some kind of manual, but I haven't seen it. I'd really like to get a shop manual for my truck, they are awesome. I've read a few places indicating 1.5-2 turns, this is what I went with when I adjusted mine in. Even TRS on their 2.9L head replacement procedure lists 1.5-1.75.
Did some more digging and thought this was pretty interesting (at the bottom):
"AERA members should be aware that the 1986 Ford Manual for the Ranger and Bronco II incorrectly states the number of turns on the rocker arm adjusting screw to set the valve lash. The manual states that the adjusting screw should be rotated 4.5 turns. Ford Motor Company advises that the correct procedure is to rotate the adjusting screw 1.5 turns. Using the incorrect specification could result in valve damage."
