190 lph fuel pump.....

Well I finally got the 190 lph fuel pump from my buddy who's building a high horsepower Mustang yesterday. While it was too small for his application it should be more than adequate for my little 3.0. I plan on installing it Friday morning and will let everyone know how it goes.

Do you have any other mods? 190 is alot on a stock motor. Whats the term when your fuel pump starves? Its a good technical term.

AS long as you have a return line, you shouldnt have a problem. Im running a 155 lph w/ a bone stock 4.0, and have had zero problems. The biggest concern would be the fuel line size. Its possible for the lines to be too small to be able to flow that much fuel, causing the pump to eventually burn out.

You can't go too big on fuel pumps, even with a returnless system. The fuel pressure regulator is inside the tank and dumps excess gas into the tank instead of going out to the motor and back thru a return line.

That , is correct even if it is pushing 2 many # it will make no difference ! cause your reg. is probably set between 30-60 ( I dunno much about rangers but that is how it is on my Mustang ( which it is a carb carb and should go no high then 14 # which is still 2 much ! ) get a good after market Regulator or even a psi guage to knwo exactly where your @ )

I know a few of the 4.0 guys tried the 190 and they didn't last long. they burnt them up due to the small line size not letting the fuel flow fast, fuel is what keeps them cool.

I put a 95lb from my 1993 mustang GT. When i swapped my 95 for a 155 out, i put my 95lb in my ranger and it actually made no diff at all, but then i installed my old 19lb injectors. Honestly it made a real good diff on top end, so the fuel pump will go great with a set of 19lb injectors added, also i forgot to mention that i also added a fuel pressure regulator on my ranger when i ordered one for my mustang.

It was kinda easy, took me about three hours start to finish, i hope i helped.

What probably happened was that the 190lph pumps they used weren't rated for 70+ psi fuel pressure. Those pumps are rated 190lph at 0psi. As the pressure climbs, the flow drops. Probably pushing only 155lph at 30-40 psi. Trying to push 60-70 psi in a returnless system would cause the relief valve on the pump to stay open all the time. I'm not surprised their pumps burned up from the strain.

I'm planing on upgrading my fuel pump to a 150lph. I have a return style fuel system. Will I be alright? And does anyone know where to find the strainer for a fuel pump without buying the pump? All the places I called won't sell the strainer without the pump.

On to my other question does anyone know where to look to find a strainer for the fuel pump without buying the whole thing?

What a fiasco.....

Well Friday I dropped my tank and put in the 190 lph fuel pump. Well after reassembling everthing my truck was very hard to start. I am thinking that it is just the fuel line having to refill and everthing would be okay after that. Well the truck did start and ran fine but the hard to start condition was there everytime I tried to start it. When I took the truck out for a "butt dyno" vtest drive, the truck lost all power above 4,000 RPM's. Through the weekend the performance got worse till yesterday I couldn't go over 30 MPH while bringing my kids home from school. Apparently the pump my buddy gave me was not in that good of shape. It had been setting up for quite a while. A least he gave it to me free. Well this morning I went and bought a "new" 110 LPH fuel pump for a Mustang Cobra. I'll be darned if I was going to drop that tank again without putting a new pump in there. I installed it and all my problems cleared up and my old B3000 is running just fine. The old "butt dyno" really approves of this mod. The new pump seems to help get the full potential out of my 19 lbs. injectors. Now I nedd to get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator so I can fine tune my new setup.
